“Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain.”
— Psalm 127:1 (ESV)
High up in the mountains of Sri Lanka, nestled in the midst of tea plantations, lies the village of Lindula. To get to it, you must travel treacherous dirt “roads” by motorcycle. In the middle of Lindula, built into a steep hill, lies an unassuming, white building. Despite its apparent newness compared to the other buildings in the village, there isn’t much to distinguish it visually. Yet this three-story building serves many purposes: it is a church building, a preschool, a vocational school for women, and a hub for many other programs. It is the epicentre of disciple-making and holistic care for the community; representing the fruit of over two decades of the Love Trust Fellowship Child Sponsorship ministry. This is where the foundations of individual and community Gospel transformation are being laid.
These foundations exist because of the Gospel-centred holistic care provided through Love Trust; meeting the spiritual, educational, emotional, and physical needs of the children first, but also of their mothers. This is made possible by providing a well-trained missionary team to run the preschools and vocational programs, leadership training for local church leaders, and a building that meets the needs of Love Trust and the broader community.
The transformation has been slow in Lindula, but there is much to take note of. The presence of the white building is no longer just tolerated, but accepted and even celebrated as an integral part of the community. Entire families are coming to Christ and joining a Gospel-proclaiming church. Mothers who used to depend on the tea plantations for daily work have trained as seamstresses through Love Trust’s vocational training program and have drastically improved their family income. Children who were part of the very first preschool cohort have now graduated high school and have gone on to post-secondary education — something that was inconceivable before Love Trust began. Families are experiencing newfound stability and health. There is a feeling of hope for the future that wasn’t there before. But there is still much work to be done.
Love Trust has four other locations in remote Sri Lankan villages. One of them is nearing this level of health. Three promising new locations have been established within the last five years, but in order to start to see Gospel transformation with holistic care happen in these villages, some investment is needed.
Fellowship International missionary Ronald Jeyaseelan and FAIR are inviting you and your church to engage with this exciting mission field and become missionaries through child sponsorship.
Through the Foundations | SRI LANKA Summer 2025 special appeal, FAIR is seeking to raise $200,000 which will be used to support the preschool missionary team, provide leadership training for local church leaders, and construct and outfit multipurpose buildings in each of the three locations.
You can help build hope and grow futures in Sri Lanka through the Foundations FAIR appeal.
