Foundations — Churches

Faces of young Sri Lankan children

As part of the Foundations | SRI LANKA special appeal, FAIR is asking churches to engage in one or more of the following ways. It’s up to each church to prayerfully decide their level of engagement. We invite you to review the options below and identify what fits your church family best.

Option 1: Commit to a gift or offering

Decide on a financial goal that your church or group can commit to give or raise in a special offering or fundraiser.

Some things to consider when setting your church’s goal:

  • Different churches are able to raise different amounts. Set a faith goal that fits your congregation’s size and capacity, but that is also big enough to create a sense of excitement and dependence on God. Then celebrate whatever your church family is able to raise.
  • Book a speaker to come visit your church or group and share about the Foundations special appeal and what God is already doing through Sri Lankan churches.
  • Check out the promotional resources that FAIR has made available to help promote this appeal in your context.

Read the instructions to churches on how to send offering funds.

Option 2: Learn more about Sri Lanka

Watch the Foundations appeal video to learn about how God has been working in rural Sri Lanka through the Love Trust Fellowship Child Sponsorship ministry. Consider sharing videos with your church leading up to your special offering or fundraiser.

FAIR will be hosting a virtual event to share stories of how God is moving in Sri Lanka. Consider inviting your church members to join the virtual event to listen, learn, and pray together for our brothers and sisters in Sri Lanka.

Learn more about the virtual events and/or to sign up.

Option 3: Pray for Sri Lanka

Make time to pray for Love Trust, and the local Sri Lankan churches that help make it a reality, in your weekly church gathering, as part of your church offering, or as a regular rhythm. Take a look at the prayer resource developed to help inform your church’s prayers for Sri Lanka.

Option 4: Serve with local churches

FAIR is facilitating short-term mission trips designed to help Canadians use their talents and energy to serve Sri Lankan churches. There are many opportunities to serve.

Trips take place twice a year – once in the winter and once in the fall. Winter trips include activities like running Vacation Bible School programs or medical workshops, visiting different programs, and providing a community meal for widows/widowers of the village. Fall trips are focused on training church leaders, with the primary emphasis on teaching future and current pastors and ministry workers, and family enrichment seminars.

If there is interest in your church to send a team, you can sign up beforehand with the understanding that the specifics are still to be determined. Churches that choose this option are responsible for gathering the team and vetting participants. Contact FAIR for information by phone (519-821-4830) or email.

FAIR will not be sending individuals who are not connected with a Fellowship church.
