What is the Price for Freedom?

Did you know that on any given day there are 17,000 people living in slavery in Canada? Slavery exists even here in our own backyards.

But if those numbers don't stagger you, these should. It is estimated that there are between 21 and 46 million slaves worldwide, depending on how you define slavery—a definition that has not been universally agreed upon. Types of slavery include: forced migrant labour, sex slavery, forced marriage and child marriage, and child labour.

Approximately 20% of slaves are engaged in forced prostitution, most of whom are girls averaging 13 years of age. These children are often trafficked from Eastern Europe and Southeast Asia to the wealthy countries such as the United States. Cybersex trafficking is live sexual abuse streamed on the internet. Adults receive payment from predators and pedophiles from all over the world. Some of these children are under two years old, used by family members to earn quick cash. Human trafficking generates $150 billion every year.

Since 2015, FAIR has partnered with International Justice Mission (IJM) whose mission is to rescue the poor and vulnerable around the world from those who exploit and enslave them. IJM works alongside local authorities to bring criminals to justice, to rescue and rehabilitate those caught in their web, and to strengthen justice systems.

Every year IJM hosts Freedom Sunday, an opportunity for churches across the nation and the world to become informed about issues of social justice, to pray, and to support. This year Freedom Sunday falls on Sunday, September 22, 2019. Get informed. Get involved. Click here for more information on FAIR's partnership with IJM and visit the Freedom Sunday link to get information on how your church can participate.
