Sri Lanka Crisis Response

The Situation

On November 28, 2025, Cyclone Ditwah struck Sri Lanka. The disaster is likely the most challenging natural calamity in the country’s history. Torrential rainfall, in some areas more than 300 mm, resulted in flooding and landslides, and led to hundreds of deaths, thousands missing, and more than a million people otherwise directly affected. Entire communities have been left homeless or are living under precarious conditions.

FAIR has partnered for many years with Love Trust in Sri Lanka through the Fellowship Child Sponsorship Program. As part of its ministry, Love Trust also partners with Lanka Bible College and Seminary in providing leadership training.

As the extent of the disaster unfolded, Dr. Lal Senanayake, president of the school, connected with Fellowship International missionary and Love Trust Director, Ronald Jeyaseelan, with the following information and an urgent request:

Early on the morning of the 27th, around 3:00am, I was awakened by a frantic knock on my door…My son informed me that the retaining wall near our girls’ and boys’ dormitories had collapsed after several days of continuous, heavy rain…Just above the collapsed section stands the 33,000-volt high-tension electricity tower, which has now become a significant threat to the safety of our entire campus community…The retaining wall must be reconstructed without delay, and urgent professional assessment is required to secure the campus from the potential danger posed by the high-tension tower…We need structural engineers, professional consultation, and resources to begin the restoration immediately.”

FAIR’s Response

The need at the Lanka Bible College and Seminary is urgent. Resources are also required to provide for the basic needs of those in the community who have lost everything in the flooding. This includes rebuilding homes and ensuring access to safe water and electricity.

FAIR is appealing to our Fellowship churches to give $50,000 to help provide disaster relief to this community and support the restoration of the critical infrastructure at the seminary. Funds raised will also be used by the Love Trust teams for other relief efforts from the cyclone.

Our response to this disaster not only offers us the opportunity to help our Sri Lankan brothers and sisters in Christ, but also provides them, and us, the opportunity to show the love of Jesus, His compassion, and His mercy at a critical time in Sri Lanka’s history.
