Jamaica Crisis Response
“Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.” 1 John 3:18 (NIV)
For the past 13 years, Grace Baptist Church, a Fellowship church in Charlottetown, PE, has been partnering with Independence Hall Baptist Church in Axe and Adze, Jamaica through pastor Kingsley and his wife Simone Smith. Grace has been sending youth teams to support Independence Hall in ministering to the local community—impacting the lives of children and their families as well as half a dozen pastors from other churches in the area.
On Tuesday, October 28th, Hurricane Melissa devastated the western part of Jamaica and the Smiths were in the eye of the storm. They, along with their disabled daughter who is also non-verbal, and Kingsley's ailing mother who lives with them, moved to the basement to ride out the storm. Sadly, the rooves of their house and the church building were destroyed during the storm; their animals were killed; and most of their personal possessions, money, and passports are gone. Before they even had time to deal with their own personal losses, they began coming to the aid of many from the community who were reaching out for help.
FAIR immediately responded to this need by releasing support from our Where Needed Most fund and began building a relief project in partnership with both churches. Since then, many of our Fellowship churches with family and friends in Jamaica have contacted us as well, asking how we can come together to rebuild and encourage this community.
Please prayerfully consider joining us in rebuilding the devastated communities in western Jamaica through our local body of Christ.
