Water for People Who Don’t Live on Mars

Scientists are thrilled to discover that there is water on Mars. The MER mission (Mars Exploration Rover) responsible for that discovery alone cost $1.08 billion. To date, four similar missions have taken place. Mars is among the most expensive projects undertaken by NASA.

And nobody lives there who can appreciate that liquid gift.

Meanwhile on planet earth, 29% of the population do not have access to clean water. Two billion people do not have access to adequate sanitation, and three billion cannot safely wash their hands. In a report from WHO (World Health Organization), contaminated water can transmit such diseases as diarrhea, cholera, typhoid, and polio. It is estimated that almost 500,000 people die each year from diarrhea alone. WHO also warns that “…by 2025 half of the world’s population will be living in water-stressed areas.”

One of the pillars upon which the Fellowship Child Sponsorship program is built is to: “Provide a safe place for the vulnerable — giving children access to much-needed medical care, healthy meals, daily activities, and a chance to be a child.”

Access to clean water is part of a happy and healthy childhood. While it is nice to know that there is water on Mars, it brings much greater joy to the heart to know that children around the world will flourish because they have access to both clean, and Living, water.

God has answered prayer in Honduras, an answer that will help to bring clean water to the children at Casa Hogar, a residential care home for vulnerable children and youth. For the last ten years, drinking water has had to be brought to the home every week. Digging a well on the property, which will resolve the problem of potable water at Casa Hogar, has been an ongoing effort, subject to the availability of funds. Recently a donor moved in to help FAIR take a significant step toward the completion of the project.

We are grateful.

Clean and accessible water is only part of the commitment that defines The Fellowship Child Sponsorship program. Find out more by clicking here.

We are grateful to God for the foresight of many in our Fellowship community who support children through child sponsorship, who help provide not only the basic necessities of life, but an opportunity to hear and respond to the Gospel—a necessity with eternal outcomes. More of those committed partners are needed. We invite you to join the team.
