Project Fresh Start ... It Really is!

The economic crunch has ravaged many countries in Europe. “Austerity”, whether we like it or not, seems to be the new catch-word for many governments and organizations. For Casa Hogar’s motherhouse in Spain, economics has created the painful problem of no longer being able to fund the ministry of its children’s home in Honduras. For some of those among our Fellowship family who have invested themselves and their resources into the ministry of Casa Hogar, the thought of seeing that ministry phased out is unthinkable. Such things happen, but surely not to Casa Hogar.

Our Lord is quoted as saying, “Suffer the little children to come unto me…” Coming to know anything about Christ is humanly impossible on the violent streets where 150,000 orphaned, abandoned, and abused Honduras children eek out what could hardly be called a “living,” often at the mercy of criminals and sexual predators. Casa Hogar exists to help change that scenario. It is a facility and program dedicated to helping some of the children in Honduras who, for various reasons, do not have a place to call home or families to provide for them. Casa Hogar provides shelter, food, skills-training, education, medical attention, mentoring, and spiritual formation in a home-like atmosphere where kids can be kids and feel valued and loved.

FAIR has been negotiating with the motherhouse with the expectation of assuming more responsibility for Casa Hogar. This transition will keep its doors open and prevent the return of the children to the streets. We assume nothing except the bountiful provision of our generous God through His people—perhaps through you.

The financial needs associated with that transition are the basis for the Fresh Start appeal. FAIR is seeking to raise $110,000 which will be used to:

  1. Cover the expenses relating to assuming responsibility for the property and buildings.
  2. To meet the needs of the children and staff during the transition and while a child sponsorship program is amplified that will sustain the home into the future.
  3. To provide a covering for a play area so that the children will be able to use it year round.

More than anything else we covet your prayers as these oftentimes delicate negotiations take place. Pray that new partners would be added to the Casa Hogar child sponsorship program. This program will become the flagship for other similar, but unique, opportunities to be offered to our constituency on behalf of children living in other parts of the world where FAIR is working.
