Indonesia Flood Relief

Every year, the floods return. But you can help bring hope.

In some places around the globe, a natural disaster strikes almost every year. Despite its regularity, the effects are just as devastating each time. Often those hardest hit are from the poorest communities who have the least number of options to leave or better their lives.

What would you do if you knew that every year, your safety, home, and livelihood would be at risk? Would you move and rebuild elsewhere? Would you leave your community and extended family and the only life you’ve ever known?

This is the reality that faces rural communities in Indonesia every monsoon season. They have lived for generations in the same location and it’s all they know. Despite the risk, they have few options or opportunities available that are advantageous enough for them to be willing to step very far out of their comfort zone.

Fellowship International missionary Edwin Karwur is currently mentoring disciple-makers David and Bedi, who live and work in one of these communities. In early May, Edwin reported that flooding had covered many homes as well as the public school where David teaches. David and Bedi jumped into action quickly — helping people in government-provided shelters with counseling and prayer ministry, as well as cleaning up homes as the waters receded.

Disasters like this one often open doors for the Gospel to be shared, while physical and emotional needs are being cared for. Edwin reports that because of FAIR’s emergency response to previous floods, several Discovery Bible Study groups have been started.

FAIR is committed to partnering with Edwin, David, and Bedi, to serve those most affected by flooding, and share with them the hope they have in Jesus Christ.

Would you consider partnering with your brothers and sisters in Indonesia today? Your gift helps families recover from disaster and creates new opportunities for the Good News of Jesus Christ to be shared.
