The Importance of Partnership

Partnerships are important to FAIR. In many cases, in major projects where FAIR does not have the resources, the expertise, or the people on the ground to handle a particular need, working hand-in-hand with others becomes essential. This has been true as some of our churches have sought to address the overwhelming need of refugees around the world. FAIR partners with the experts at Christian and Missionary Alliance Canada (C&MA) as an officially recognized Sponsorship Agreement Holder (SAH) in the private sponsorship of refugees. FAIR acts as a facilitator, or Constituent Group, working with our churches under the umbrella of C&MA as our SAH in the sometimes complicated process of resettling in Canada those who, because of conflict or persecution, have been forced to leave their homelands in search of a new life elsewhere and are unable to stay in the countries to which they have fled.

One of the resources C&MA offers is e-training in all the aspects involved in the private sponsorship of refugees. Visit their site for more details at: http://www.rstp.ca/en/training/e-training

Fellowship churches across Canada have responded generously to the call to sponsor refugees. This past summer, FAIR Director Dan Shurr interviewed Brian Lawrence, a member of Elliott Heights Baptist Church (Hamilton, ON) about his experiences with refugee sponsorship.

Watch the video Refugee Sponsorship Conversations 4 – Hesitations, at https://vimeo.com/user80645951 to hear the fourth part of their conversation. Brian speaks about some of the concerns that might cause churches to hesitate when considering whether or not to participate in sponsoring a refugee.
