Catalyzing movements across 17 regions

“We are really seeing God sending people to Spain and sharing this vision of multiplication,” shares Ingrid Castro. Along with her husband, Ricardo, they are Fellowship International missionaries with a heart for Spain. From Canada, as church planters in Quebec, to Spain in Extremadura, and currently in Seville, this missionary couple is following the command to “make disciples among all nations” with one clear vision: to have 1,700 Bible study groups across Spain, 100 in each of the country’s 17 regions.

“We think this is the point. It’s really to multiply disciples who are able to make disciples, form groups, and eventually, when you have a few groups, form a church. So that’s encouraging because we see the Lord working.”

Currently, they have developed these groups in Andalusia, Madrid, and Barcelona, and are developing strategies to focus on other regions and cities. By remembering that they’re part of something bigger than themselves, Ricardo and Ingrid have been able to see God at work, sending people with a similar vision who are willing to join God’s work and catalyze movements.

One challenge and prayer request they share is with the Spanish people. Starting a church with Latin Americans currently residing in Spain can be a speedy process because of their openness to the Gospel. However, reaching the Spanish people for Christ is much more difficult work. They write: “When you work with Spanish people, you need time. It takes a lot of time. And then after a while, maybe they will be open to starting a Bible study. There’s a couple that is open to having the Bible study now, and we started with them four or five years ago.… So, there’s a lot of perseverance involved.”

As they continue in this ministry in Spain, another prayer request is for perseverance. Even in this encouraging season, they face the reality that their work is not only about starting new groups, but also about maintaining relationships and helping them grow over time. It can be easy to feel discouraged, so let us pray for renewed motivation and for the Castros to be reminded that the Lord is faithful.
