Nathan and Bethany Johnson
Nathan and Bethany Johnson are teaching, discipleship and church development in Austria.
Nathan was raised in a Christian home and dedicated his life to Christ as a child. His spiritual development was strongly influenced by the positive example set by his family and youth leaders. Short mission trips Nathan took in high school impacted his growth and stirred his interest in serving cross-culturally. A mutual interest in serving in Europe brought him and Bethany together in 2007, and the couple was married in April of 2009.
Bethany grew up in a Christian home in Connecticut and was also saved at a young age. Growing up, she was actively involved in her church youth group and attended a number of Christian camps, all of which helped strengthen her walk with Jesus and understanding of her faith. Bethany’s time at Wheaton College was also a great time of spiritual growth, and she has continued to grow and be challenged spiritually through church and small group involvement.
Nathan’s mission trips during high school, his education at Moody Bible Institute and a short-term internship in Bosnia confirmed that God was leading him to missions. God led Bethany into missions primarily through a short-term trip to Amsterdam, where she shared the Gospel with travelers at a Christian youth hostel. The Johnsons are both moved by the spiritual need in Europe and are excited about the opportunity to serve there.
Gifted with speaking and teaching abilities, Nathan is passionate about knowing God’s Word on a deeper level and hopes to train Austrian Christians to be leaders and teachers themselves. Administration, shepherding and counseling are Bethany’s gifts. She has a passion for mentoring and discipleship, and also enjoys music ministry. The Johnsons also hope to use hospitality and outdoor adventure activities as ministry tools to build relationships and share the love of Christ.
