Home church: Enderby, BC
At the age of six, in response to the work of the Holy Spirit in her life, Elaine acknowledged her sin and accepted Christ as Saviour. Her early interest in missions was confirmed to her when she was miraculously spared after being hit by a car. "God has saved me...He must have a plan for my life". In her teen years, she surrendered her life to God's will, recognizing His call to full-time service.
Elaine attended Prairie Bible Institute for one year, then proceeded to a practical nursing course in Kelowna BC, followed by practical experience in Salmon Arm. Elaine then finished her formal theological studies at Mountain View Bible College in AB.
In 1981, Elaine began attending Maple Ridge Baptist Church, where she was stimulated and challenged through contact with Larry and Barb Gustafson, who were anticipating service at Shikarpur Christian Hospital. This exposure was used of the Lord to bring a deepening conviction that Pakistan was God’s place for her.
In October 1983, Elaine left for Pakistan. During her first two years she was immersed in language learning. As the language became more and more familiar to her she was able to dedicate more and more time to women's ministries in the hospital. Outreach is done with families who come to the hospital, patients in the hospital, to female family members looking after those who have been hospitalized, to outpatients, and includes visits to homes and villages of those who have been patients. Elaine works alongside two Bible women, Elishba and Muhktar, who are also part of the evangelism team. The hospital not only has a reputation for superior medical services, but has also been an extremely effective means of reaching Pakistanis for the Lord Jesus Christ. Literacy, chronological Bible storying and showing the "Jesus" film are tools used for evangelism and Bible teaching.
Elaine has the demanding task of serving as Treasurer for the field and as a member of the Management Board.
