Mark originates from British Columbia. After graduating from university he took a trip to India where he came to faith through the ministry of Delhi Bible Fellowship. He later gained his teaching certification with a view to serving overseas.
Catherine is also a native of British Columbia and came to faith as a teenager through the ministry of Pioneer Girls. She is also a teaching professional.
In 1981 the Buhler’s headed to Kenya and the Rift Valley Academy. They returned to Canada two years later to complete further studies. In 1990 they returned to Kenya where they taught at Rift Valley until 2003. Besides teaching, the Buhler’s were very involved in community projects such as school feeding programs, reforestation, ministry to AIDs orphans, administration, student outreach trips to villages, jails, etc., and as dorm parents at the school.
The Buhlers’ relationship with our Fellowship churches, particularly in the west, brought them to Fellowship International in 2005. They returned to Kenya in 2006 to oversee the school’s outreach and educational fieldtrip programs.
In 2011 they returned to Vancouver where they have served until the present. Mark is involved in mentoring young men (mostly) in developing cross-cultural ministry skills. They are connected with people from many nations and religious backgrounds using Faith Fellowship Baptist Church as their base. Weekly leadership development sessions are a backbone to the mentorship program.
