Matthew and Pam Boardwell
Matthew and Pam Boardwell both encountered Jesus very early in life and grew up active in their local churches. Pam's father was an evangelical pastor in western Canada. Matthew spent his childhood in west Michigan. They met at Briercrest Bible College in Saskatchewan and upon graduation were married and moved to Colorado. In the first 10 years of ministry there, they served one Baptist church where Matthew was the Associate Pastor. Then they planted a church in Erie, Colorado where they made their home and raised their nine children, six of whom will move with them to Ireland.
The family visited Ireland in 2009 and discovered a history rich with missions and spiritual transformation. Over the course of the visit, they engaged many Irish people in spiritual conversation and discovered a longing for something more personal than the ritual faith offered through the two predominant churches. They returned home with a burden to see Irish people reintroduced to a vibrant everyday living faith.
In August 2012 the Boardwells were appointed as church planting missionaries to Ireland with WorldVenture.
Since 2014 the Boardwells have lived near Sligo, Ireland focusing their efforts in towns and villages in North Leitrim and Sligo Counties. Currently in this area less than one tenth of 1% are evangelical believers.
Matthew and Pam and six of their children reach out into the community through activities like music, dance, and drama. In grassroots evangelism and Bible study discipleship, the Boardwells seek to lead individuals into a living faith in Jesus. At the appropriate time, they will gather these Irish believers into a new local church. For this work, they will draw on their church planting experience and their gifts of teaching, leading, music, writing, and ministry to children.
