Rod and Donna Black

Home Church: West Edmonton Baptist, Edmonton, AB

Significant Dates:

· Appointed to ministry in Pakistan in 1982.
· Departed for field 1983.
· Reassigned to serve as Fellowship International rep in the FEBCAST Region in 2000.
∙ Returned to Pakistan in 2005.
∙ Returned to Canada in 2011 to begin ministry with Fellowship International in Canada within the Fellowship Prairies Region.

Both Rod and Donna were born into Christian homes and accepted the Lord when they were young. They learned early in life that there is more to being a Christian than to have the head knowledge.  You must also have heart knowledge of Jesus Christ and His love.

Rod and Donna met while studying at NBTC in Vancouver and were married in 1981.  Shortly after they were challenged to consider the possibility of overseas ministry.  After much prayer, the Blacks applied and were accepted for career service with Fellowship International in Pakistan among Muslims.  In 1983 the Blacks arrived in Karachi, Pakistan ready for language study.

Rod and Donna served in a variety of capacities helping to see a church-planting movement start among the Sindhi people. As Principal of the Pakistan Bible Correspondence School Rod oversaw staff reaching out to thousands of young men and women who studied the Bible by correspondence in Sindhi.  98% of the students are non-Christian and we praise God for such an opportunity to reach Muslims and Hindus for Christ.

From 2000-2005 Rod served as Fellowship International’s representative in the FEBCAST Region (Alberta, Saskatchewan and Territories) visiting Bible colleges and speaking in churches.

The Blacks returned to Pakistan in 2005 and were involved in leadership development and beginning house churches. They have studied the local patterns of music and poetry in order to provide more worship materials for the churches as well as using it as a form of communication with Sindhis. In 2011 a new CD with Bible stories and songs came out to be used with a Bible-storying quilt that Donna had developed.

Since 2011 the Blacks have been based in Canada. Rod is continuing to assist the Pakistan field in preparing print and audio/video resources while travelling to the field to train leaders, and is also working with our FEB Prairies Region (formerly FEBCAST and FEBMid Regions) to assist them in seeking to reach out to newcomers in their communities.
