Amherstburg Baptist Builders Appeal
Lighthouse Baptist Church, located in Amherstburg, ON, serves a community of 20,000 people, within a 30-minutes’ drive of Windsor. The church began in 1971 and joined the Fellowship in 1979.
Constructed in 1875, the church building served as a parish hall for a nearby Catholic Church before being purchased in the 1970s in order to establish an evangelical presence in the community. While Lighthouse Baptist Church has faced many challenges over its 46 years of ministry, never has it ceased to proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ within the community.
Over the last number of years, increasing building maintenance expenses and declining attendance,
brought about the decision to put the building up for sale. Unless the Lord intervened, it seemed as though the doors to the church would soon be closed.
This spring, sensing the Lord’s leading to continue reaching Amherstburg for Christ, the congregation voted to call a veteran pastor to begin a rebuilding process and to help reestablish Lighthouse Baptist. In June, Dr. Adrian Ninaber and his wife, Rose, began ministry at the church and they are experiencing growth and seeing signs of new life under their leadership and passion to reach the lost for Christ.
One of the significant challenges facing the congregation is the need to replace the church roof. The anticipated cost for this project is $40,000. The congregation has already raised $12,000 and a Christian businessman has agreed to match donations up to $5,000. The plan is to replace the roof in early October.
Baptist Builders is seeking to raise funds to assist with this need.
